Complete water projects by March-end: ZP prez

Zilla Panchayat President Dinaker Babu instructed the officials to complete all the water-related projects by March-end.

Speaking at the monthly Karnataka Development Programme review meeting, on Wednesday, he said there were complaints that construction works of vented dams being substandard in quality resulting in the leakage of water especially at Kaduhole-Kadthala in Karkala.

He said all vented dams should be repaired at the earliest. He also instructed the officials to put up wooden planks across the Udyavara river.

He said taxes were revised in all gram panchayats. The tax collection process should be completed by March end. Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Sindhu Rupesh instructed the officials for effective collection of taxes and the collected amount to be deposited to the bank on the same day.

Babu said that the house and all other construction works have come to a standstill owing to acute shortage of sand.

An official from Mines and Geology said that the 21 sand bars were identified in Non CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone) area and mining was approved by Karnataka Coastal Zone Management Committee (KCZMC).

The KRIDL (Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd), PWD (Public Works Department) and gram panchayats are permitted to extract sand. In CRZ area, as many as seven sand bars were permitted by KCZMC.

Around 7,96,522 tonnes of sand is collected and will be used for the purpose of constructing houses sanctioned through various housing schemes.

Briefing over the action taken to curtail the spreading of monkey fever, the In-charge Officer Rama Rao said that all required measures had been taken to curtain the spread of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD). Awareness are being created in villages situated on the fringes of forest on the spread of KFD.

The Chief Planning Officer Srinivas Rao said that the officials were trained for the construction of twin toilet pits to be constructed in the days to come.
