California Company Recalls Single-Serve Salad Packages Due to Listeria Concerns

LA Testing provides laboratory services to identify Listeria and other microbial pathogens.

Huntington Beach, CA – WEBWIRE

Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) posted information about a food recall initiated by a company from Guadalupe, California. The recall was launched after a positive test result for Listeria monocytogenes in a package of the single-serve salad bowls tested by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

According to the notice, as a precautionary measure, the California-based company recalled all products produced on the same day and production line as the product sample that tested positive for Listeria. The products had been shipped to retail and distributor customers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Texas. In Canada, the products were shipped to retail and distributor customers in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan. Consumers have been advised to dispose of the products in question or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

“While there have been no reports of illnesses involved with this case, the cost to companies involved in product recalls and the public relations’ challenges they typically face can be substantial,” said Michael Chapman, Laboratory Manager of LA Testing’s Huntington Beach facility. “The lack of illnesses if very fortunate as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that Listeria is the third leading cause of death from food poisoning.”

Food scientists at LA Testing offer food testing services to identify Listeria, E. coli, Salmonella and other microbial pathogens. These services are instrumental for testing raw and finished products as well as for evaluating and confirming disinfection procedures at food processing facilities.
