Iowa Department of Public Health reports first flu-related child death of the season

DES MOINES, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) — The Iowa Department of Public Health said in a new report that the first pediatric influenza-associated death of this season was reported this week.

The report does not mention the age or location of the child.

Overall, influenza activity increased in February, with 60 percent of flu-related hospitalizations reported this season have happened in the last four weeks.

IDPH is still encouraging Iowans to get this year's flu vaccine.
