LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The flu season death toll in Arkansas has reached 63.

That’s according to the latest flu report released Tuesday by the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) for the week ending March 9. The total is six more than last week.

The ADH says of those influenza-related deaths, 70 percent were unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccine history.

For Week 10 of 2019, Arkansas reported “Widespread” activity to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for geographic spread of influenza, and “High” or 10/10 for ILI intensity.

Since September 30, 2018, over 26,000 positive influenza tests have been reported to the ADH online database by health care providers. In Week 10, 68 counties reported influenza cases. The majority of reports came from Pulaski, Sebastian, Lonoke, White, Washington, Faulkner, Benton, Garland, Clark, Saline, Randolph, Logan, and Lawrence.

Among flu antigen tests that can distinguish between influenza A and B virus types, 93 percent were influenza A, and 7 percent were influenza B.
