A Pharmacist, Ms Tobi Osinuga, has urged pharmaceutical stores to imbibe the culture of making quality drugs available to people, saying that the kind of drugs people use when they fall sick can go a long way in determining if they will be cured or not.
Speaking at the unveiling of Cypress Pharmacy in Lagos on Sunday, Osinuga said that access to safer medicine could be achieved from legitimate wholesalers who patronise genuine drug manufacturers.
“Quality medicine is important in getting safe health care, patients health will be in jeopardy when they fall sick and they have to deal with the problem of using substandard or fake drugs,” she said.
Advising managers of pharmaceutical stores not to allow the love of money make them lose empathy for the people, she added, “We need to be passionate about what we are doing. Everything is not about money. When we have empathy for the people, we will not sell fake or substandard drugs to them. We will give them the right drugs.”
Another pharmacist, Blessing Okpara, urged Nigerians to desist from the habit of self-medicating, stressing that many people have lost their lives while using unprescribed drugs.
“As pharmacists, we are always advising people to stop self-medication. Our job is to interpret prescriptions received from doctors. We must advise patients and let them know that it is dangerous to go to a pharmaceutical store and buy any drug they want because they have the money or because the drug has worked for someone they know before,” he said.
