Viral flu cases hit the North

The Health Ministry is advising Fijians to be more cautious and protect themselves from the viral flu currently affecting many.

The viral flu cases were high in the central division earlier this year but has decreased now, however there is a surge in the number of patients presenting at Labasa hospital with the suspected flu.

The symptoms of the flu includes fever, joint pains, headache and weakness.

People are advised to adhere to the health advisories and practice safe and healthy habits to protect themselves from the contracting the flu.

Fijians are advised to visit health facilities should they develop any complications.

Medical superintendent at the Labasa Hospital Dr Jaoji Vulibeci, confirms they have embraced itself with the necessary drugs and other amenities to assist the patients.

He says there is a triage system at the hospital and people will be seen according to the severity of the case.

But he says if numbers continue to rise then other clinics will be temporarily close and staff will be redeployed to outpatients departments.
