Measles case confirmed in Marion County, not connected to SW Wash. outbreak

SALEM, Ore. – Health officials confirmed a case of measles in Marion County, the Oregon Health Authority said Tuesday.

The case is reportedly linked to someone who recently visited the area, and is not connected to the measles outbreak in Clark County, Washington.

Marion County Health is monitoring another suspected case of the disease.

The investigation was first announced on Friday when authorities said someone with the measles traveled to Marion County.

Health officials were looking into other possible cases of measles in Marion County in mid-February, however, officials later announced the patients didn't actually have the measles.

OHA officials said the patient visited several places while contagious:

• Youth With a Mission, 7085 Battle Creek Road SE, Salem, Feb. 18, 7 a.m. through March 11, 5 p.m.
• Get Air Trampoline Park, 3910 Rickey St. SE, Salem, Feb. 21, 1:45-5 p.m.
• Red Robin, 831 Lancaster Dr. NE, Salem, Feb. 21, 12:30-3:30 p.m.
• Portland International Airport: Southwest Airlines check-in area and Concourse C, Feb. 22, 12:30–5 p.m.

Symptoms start with a fever and malaise followed by a rash that begins at the head and moves down the body.

If you feel like you or your child show symptoms of the measles, have visited one of the exposure sites, or are not immune to the measles, call ahead to your physician's office so they can plan ahead and limit exposure to other people.

Marion County has established a call center for general questions related to this measles case. Anyone who has questions about public exposures should call (503) 588-5621. The call center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
