Aberdeen beach closed off due to suspected bomb as specialist explosives teams race to scene

AN ABERDEEN beach has been closed off due to a suspected bomb.
Police Scotland were alerted by a member of the public to an item on shore near the Donmouth Nature Reserve this afternoon.
Coastguard teams were called to support cops around 2pm.
And specialist explosives teams were then called and raced to the scene from Edinburgh.
Police Scotland have locked down the area surrounding the mouth of the River Don as a precaution to protect the public.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "At around 2pm today we received a call from Police Scotland requesting assistance at Donmouth Nature Reserve after an item was discovered on the beach.
"After initial inspections it was thought it could be ordnance, so the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Team were called and arrived from Edinburgh around 5.20pm.

"At this time, Police Scotland, HM Coastguard and the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Team are investigating the item further.
"As a precaution and to protect the public, a cordon is in place in the surrounding area."

A police spokesperson told the Evening Express: “We received a call from the member of the public saying they had found an object washed up on the beach near the mouth of the River Don.
“Explosive Ordnance Device teams have been called as a precaution.”
