Fourth case of imported measles in 2019 – Health Bureau

2036

Macau (MNA) – A 11-month old baby boy was infected with measles after having travelled to Switzerland, the Health Bureau (SS) announced, classifying it as an imported case.

This is the fourth case of imported measles in Macau since January 2019.

According to the SS statement on Tuesday, the baby was born in Macau but was in Switzerland during the incubation period.

On March 13, he started showing symptoms such as fever and cough, with his clinical state deteriorating onwards, experiencing facial and neck rash, and conjunctivitis.

The patient had visited the Health Centre of the Ocean Gardens in Taipa on March 13 and the Pediatric Emergency Service of the Public Hospital Conde de San Januário (CHCSJ) on March 16.

CHCSJ’s laboratory results on March 19 confirmed that the patient was infected with measles.

He was not vaccinated against measles virus since he had not yet reached the age of vaccination, which is one year old.

The SS stated that the patient is currently hospitalized in the isolation nursery of the CHCSJ, still with fever but with a clinical condition considered to be normal.

The patient’s relatives had not present similar symptoms so far, still according to the health authority, which said it is monitoring the clinical status of people who have been in contact with the baby before and after he began manifesting the symptoms – including children who have been referred to the doctor or hospitalized in the same care area the patient was received and treated.
