Water leak costs Mountainburg thousands of dollars a day
A major water leak in Mountainburg is costing the city about $6 each minute.
So far, the city has spent about half the money budgeted for the year on it's water bill.
"That's a major major expense for a very small city. We are just doing the best we absolutely can with what we have," Mayor Susan Wilson said. "We can't continue like this. I've spent many sleepless nights, waking up in the middle of the night, calling on other water systems to say, do you have any help for us."
Crews located the leak in a main water line that runs parallel to Hwy. 71. Mayor Wilson told 40/29 News the line can't be shut off because it supplies about half of the town with water.
Thursday morning crews are set to fix the leak. Mayor Wilson estimates the work will take about 4 hours to complete. Wilson is hoping the town does not have to implement a boil order.
Many Mountainburg residents may not have water while the work is underway to repair the leak.
