A mandatory evacuation remained in place Wednesday for Pacific Junction in Mills County, Iowa.

Floodwaters from the Missouri River make it impossible to reach the town by foot. People were taking shelter in nearby Glenwood and the Methodist church is offering free meals.

People living in the area said they are thankful for the support from their neighbors.

"You sit and think of everything you've lost, but there ain't nothing you can do about it," said Lola Michael, of Pacific Junction.

Glenwood was also feeling the impact of the flooding.

The town's water treatment plant is shut down and there is a boil order in place.
