CHICAGO, Illinois – A lawsuit will be filed on Monday against Supermercado Rivera Inc. on behalf of Roman Caballero who was diagnosed with Salmonella after consuming carnitas purchased from Supermercado on February 24th, 2019. One day after consuming the Supermercado carnitas for lunch, Mr. Caballero began to experience extreme nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. On February 26th, he sought medical attention at Palos Health Emergency Room, where he tested positive for Salmonella through a stool culture.

As of March 7th, the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) has confirmed six people as part of a Salmonella outbreak tied to Supermercado Rivera Kitchen Counter located at W. 51st St. in Chicago, Illinois. The CDPH is advising consumers to discard all food purchased from the kitchen counter on February 23rd and 24th. As of March 1st.

“The CDC estimates yearly that over 1.2 million people are sickened with over 23,000 hospitalizations and at least 450 deaths in the United States,” said William D.
