Several pigs tested positive for Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus or PEDv after last week's Youth Livestock Show according to Oklahoma Pork Council Executive Director Roy Lee Lindsey.

Lindsey said this virus only causes issues in swine and the animal will show symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

Older pigs have a greater chance of recovering, according to Lindsey, and will only be sick for a few days, however the illness has a high mortality rate in pigs under 30 pounds.

The virus does not cause issues in any other animals or people Lindsey said and the pork is safe to eat.

If you had an animal at the show Lindsey said you should keep them separate from your other animals for a week to 10 days and make sure you wash everything you brought with you to the show including your trailers and shoes.

Lindsey said they're unsure which animal had the infection to begin with but believe due to the highly infectious nature of the illness very animal was exposed to the virus.
