Brighton, N.Y. – The Brighton Central School District is alerting parents after a case of whooping cough was reported at the district high school.

In a letter to parents, the Monroe County Health Department says a ninth grader came down with the illness.

Parents are told to take their child to a doctor if they develop a persistent cough in the next few weeks, or if they have one already.

The Health Department reminds parents they can catch the illness, too, and that they should watch for symptoms.
