Several Taft prison inmates have been quarantined after an outbreak of scabies.

The Bureau of Prisons reported the inmates possibly contracted the parasite at Taft Prison’s minimum security satellite camp.

Scabies causes a rash and intense itching, and spreads quickly through skin to skin contact.

During quarantine visitation is suspended until further notice.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says scabies is common in prisons and other crowded areas where physical contact is frequent.
