Netanyahu Cuts Short U.S. Trip After Rocket Attack Near Tel Aviv
‘CRIMINAL ATTACK’
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will cut short his visit to Washington after a rocket attack near Tel Aviv reportedly wounded seven people. A spokesman from Israel’s foreign ministry claimed the rocket was fired from Gaza—Netanyahu described it as a “criminal attack” and has threatened to respond forcefully. He arrived in Washington on Sunday for a four-day visit, but will fly home immediately after meeting Donald Trump at the White House on Monday. The early-morning attack in Mishmeret—a small agricultural town north of Tel Aviv—came at a time of high tension in Gaza after Trump’s expression of support for Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights. One house was reportedly completely destroyed in the attack and the country’s ambulance service said it was treating seven people, including an infant, a 3-year-old boy, a 12-year-old girl, and a 60-year-old woman. Netanyahu is facing a difficult re-election fight, with a vote set for April 9.
