5 fresh cases of dengue reported

nAt least five fresh cases of dengue were reported last week in the national Capital, taking the total number of patients suffering from the disease to 32. Out of these cases, 22 cases diagnosed belong from other States, according to a data released by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday.

According to weekly report released by the SDMC, DBCs workers found mosquito breeding in 2,096 households in the city till March 30. It said that 3,377 legal notices have been served for various violations and 143 prosecutions initiated till April 6. The report further stated that among the areas falling under the three municipal corporations, the cases of breeding reported were from areas of north, south and east corporations are 143, 1,811 and 142respectively.

Usually cases of vector-borne diseases are reported between July and November but this year civic body has traced many cases in months of March and April. With spurt in number of cases, civic bodies have stepped up awareness campaign and deployed Dengue Breeding Checkers (DBCs) in various wards in order to check breeding and advising people to take precautionary measures.

"Our DBCs are visiting door to door to make people aware and along with they also spraying insecticides to kill larva. 

He said that the civic body has already adopted a number of measures to prevent breeding, including creating awareness by using various media, deploying more dengue breeding checkers, and desilting of drains.

A senior corporation official said that the regarding zonal officials have been directed take precautionary measures and to ensure there was no breeding of mosquito larvae inside the houses.
