Russell Westbrook Dedicates History-Making 20-20-20 to Slain Rapper Nipsey Hussle
MOVING TRIBUTE
The Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook became the second player in NBA history to clinch a 20-20-20 game on Tuesday night—and he dedicated the victory to his friend and slain rapper Nipsey Hussle. “That wasn’t for me,” Westbrook told TNT after Tuesday’s game. “That was for my bro. That’s for Nipsey — 20 plus 20 plus 20.” The point guard tallied 20 points, 21 assists and 20 rebounds in a 119-103 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, making him the second player to achieve a third consecutive season averaging a triple-double since Wilt Chamberlain did so in 1968. Westbrook dedicated his performance to Hussle, who was gunned down Sunday outside of his Los Angeles store, The Marathon Clothing. “[He was] somebody I looked up to, somebody that paved the way for a guy like myself growing up in the inner city,” said Westbrook, who, like Hussle, grew up in Los Angeles. “To have those conversations with him. I’m just truly saddened by the situation, just continue to pray for his family.” Earlier on Tuesday, police arrested Eric Holder, 29, who is accused of fatally shooting the 33-year-old rapper and injuring two of his friends.
