The Health Department has set up Oral Dehydration Solution (ORS) corners in all Primary Health Centres (PHCs) here rise in temperature.
This is to keep patients and people visiting the PHCs hydrated and avoid health complications owing to long time exposure to sunlight.
Deputy Director of Health Services P.G. Bhanumathi told The Hindu that ORS corners will be available at all 51 PHCs in Coimbatore district.
“All the PHCs have been given adequate stocks of ORS to be diluted and kept on their premises for the use of the public. This arrangement will be continued throughout the summer,” said Dr. Bhanumathi.
According to Dr. Bhanumathi, there was no cases of heat strokes reported in Coimbatore and the Health Department is monitoring the situation.
“Consumption of unsafe food and water could trigger diseases like diarrhoea, amoebiasis, jaundice and typhoid. Keeping the body hydrated with safe water in important. As per WHO criteria, any water should be brought to rolling boil for 20 minutes and cooled before consumption,” she said.
Meanwhile, hospitals in the district have seen an increase in the number of food-borne and water-borne infections like diarrhoea, viral infections like cold and sore throat, chicken pox and measles. Patients complaining of skin diseases are also on the rise.
