MADISON COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Madison County are encouraging residents to take precautions against mosquito-borne illnesses after a horse was recently diagnosed with Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile virus.
DOH-Madison said to prevent mosquito bites, particularly during the warm, moist summer months.
They said vaccinating your horse every six months is the best prevention of EEE and West Nile virus in horses.
DOH-Madison stated horse owners should also minimize exposure to mosquitoes by frequently changing water in troughs and eliminating other standing water sources.
