Centre County doctor’s office alerts Pa. Dept. of Health to possible measles case

A doctor’s office in Centre County on Thursday reported a possible case of the measles to the state Department of Health.

The Mount Nittany Physician Group Pediatrics location at Mount Nittany Health – Boalsburg stayed open for business Thursday but did call patients and gave them the option of rescheduling, the Centre Daily Times reported.

As of Thursday, no confirmed measles cases has been reported in Pennsylvania, Department of Health spokesman Nate Wardle told the news organization. Any suspicious cases would be sent to the state lab for testing, he added.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Monday that 555 measles cases had been confirmed from the start of the year through April 11, a majority in New York. That total is already the most since 2014, when 667 were reported. Before that, the most was 963 cases in 1994.

While measles cases haven’t been seen in Pennsylvania, cases of the mumps have. Temple University in Philadelphia has been in the midst of a mumps outbreak that has grown to more than 100 cases, and Kutztown University said in late March that one of its students had come down with a likely case of it.
