URGENT action should be taken by some customers who have been shopping in Asda recently after they revealed a salmonella health risk. The store has issued a food recall warning due to the risk of salmonella in food. What has been affected?

Salmonella bacteria explained and how to prevent it

Supermarkets can sometimes recall food when there is a risk to the health of the consumers.  Asda have put out a warning urging those who have bought one of their products not to eat it, due to the risk of salmonella.  Salmonella infection is a food borne illness that can cause extreme food poisoning symptoms.  Those suffering from it can be left feeling or being sick, with stomach cramps and with aching muscles.

Salmonella warning: Asda recall cereal bars amid health risk

Asda has issued an urgent warning to recall its Cranberry and Nut Cereal Bars due to the risk of the illness.

Food can be contaminated with the bacteria at any stage during the production process, the processing of the food itself and while cooking.

The cereal bars affected are those in the pack size of 4x35g with the best before end date of September 2019.

The supermarket chain has issued the precautionary recall and advised customers who have bought the product not to eat it.

This is because the product may contain salmonella which could potentially leave customers suffering from conditions of the illness.

Instead, customers who have bought the bars can return them to the store where it was bought.

Customers will be given a full refund and Asda has displayed notices in all stores to make people aware of the risk.

These notices explain to customers why the product has been recalled and to clarify what they should do if they have bought it.

No other Asda products are known to be affected.

Although food recalls are often done as a precautionary measure, they should be taken seriously to reduce the risk of illness.
