Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction at the report filed by the principal secretary of health and family welfare department with regard to deaths due to swine flu, typhoid and malaria in the state.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Raghvendra Chauhan and Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy was dealing with a PIL taken up based on a letter by Rapolu Bhaskar, a practising advocate of the city, seeking to direct the state government to provide adequate medical facilities in government hospitals in the state which are not equipped properly to treat the diseases like swine flu, malaria, dengue etc., especially in the twin cities due to which a majority of the patients affected are forced to get admitted to private hospitals.
While stating that the report was bereft of details of deaths of persons died with fatal diseases, the bench pointed out as to how a patient suffering with swine flu in a remote place of Adilabad district get treatment when the facility is available only in Gandhi hospital.
Government counsel A. Sanjiv Kumar submitted that the Gandhi hospital is recognised as the nodal hospital to treat swine flu patients and across the state 37 government hospitals have facilities to treat the patients suffering from fatal diseases.
The bench directed the authorities to submit a comprehensive report by April 30.
