JAMMU, Apr 29: Save Animals Value Environment (SAVE) has started a drive against the horse-cart, mule and donkey owners to check the misuse and abuse of these animals in this scorching heat.
A handout claimed that horses and donkeys are the victims of abuse.
SAVE chairperson, Rumpy Madaan stated that the legislation for safeguarding animals is not enforced properly.
She also informed that during a random check many horses in the city were found unfit to work and carried wounds on their legs and back.
Madaan also said that between 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm the heat is at its peak from April to July and animals fall prey to heat waves.
“Using horse-carts, mules or ponies with heavy load due to which these animals fall sick or die is against the rules of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and Section 6 of Prevention of Cruelty to Draught and Pack Animals Rules, 1965,” she maintained adding that she will ask Jammu Municipal Corporation to build a shed for horses.
