A third Palm Beach County school has been scrubbed and sanitized after someone was diagnosed with MRSA, the contagious bacteria, WPEC-CBS12 reports.

A person “who occasionally visits” Jupiter Elementary School was diagnosed with MRSA, the Palm Beach County School District confirmed.

MRSA most often causes skin infections, but in some cases, it causes pneumonia or other infections, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If it’s untreated, a MRSA infection may worsen, causing sepsis.

In a robocall to parents Monday night, Jupiter Elementary Principal Nicole Daly said the person who was diagnosed only occasionally visited and had “very limited movement within our school.”

The other schools recently sanitized for precaution were:

— William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, which was cleansed over the weekend and classes resumed Monday.

— Suncoast Community High School in Riviera Beach, which had someone diagnosed with MRSA last week. Crews also sanitized that campus.

The best ways to avoid MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, include:

— Good hand and body hygiene.

— Keep cuts, scrapes and wounds clean and covered until healed.

— Avoid sharing personal items such as towels and razors.

— Symptoms depend on where MRSA appears on the body.

— Contact your doctor if you have questions.
