Pangasinan health unit reports 20 chickenpox cases

At least 20 cases of chickenpox have been recorded by a local health unit in Pangasinan, Jasmin Gabriel-Galban reported on GMA News TV's News To Go on Thursday.

Sta. Barbara town's Rural Health Unit (RHU) said that the number of chickenpox cases started to rise beginning the second week of April, with two to three cases being reported daily.

Varicella-zoster virus causes chickenpox, which is highly contagious especially to those who have never been infected and have not been vaccinated.

Chickenpox symptoms include fever and blister-like rash. The disease can be transmitted by direct contact with, and touching or inhaling particles from the rashes.

If suffering from symptoms, the RHU-Sta. Barbara advised the public to immediately consult the doctor to prevent complications. —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
