Umhlanga beaches closed after lifeguards forced from posts
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Beaches north of Durban appear to have been affected by the municipal strike.
The Umhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct says Umhlanga beaches have been closed after lifeguards were forced from their posts this morning.
Lifeguards and cleaners are unable to work at the moment.
The UIP's Cara Reilly says they have to wait for direction from eThekwini.
"The beach closure is issued by the lifeguards themselves, and that's the municipality. We just have to follow that direction. It would have to be safe for them to get back to their positions," she said.
"It's all a bit open-ended."
