Measles Outbreak: Rockland Cases Rise To 205

State and local officials went to Albany this week to urge passage of bills to help fight the rise of a once-eradicated disease.

NEW CITY, NY — There was another rise in the number of measles cases in Rockland County. As of Wednesday, there are now 205 confirmed reported cases in the county.

Vaccination rates for confirmed measles cases in Rockland County as of April 30, 2019:

  • 79.5% have had 0 MMRs
  • 4.9% have had 1 MMR
  • 2.9% have had 2 MMRs
  • 12.7% unknown status

  • Less than 1 year old: 13.2%
  • 1-3 years: 27.8%
  • 4-6 years: 15.1%
  • 7-18 years: 25.9%
  • 19+ years: 18%

Rockland County issued a second declaration of a local state of emergency that renewed the original one that was set to expire April 25. The second declaration is in effect until 11:59 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

County Executive Ed Day was in Albany Monday, along with state Sen. David Carlucci, D-Rockland/Westchester, to urge passage of two bills that would end all non-medical vaccine exemptions and create a statewide vaccine awareness campaign that would combat false information about vaccines.
