6 out of 15 patients test positive for hepatitis C
Ludhiana: As many as 6 people were detected with hepatitis C from Maniewal village on Thursday out of total 15 samples collected during a health checkup camp organized by the district health department and Punjab Pollution Control Board on Wednesday.
The checkup camp was organized in Maniewal and Wallipur Kalan on Wednesday where the doctors collected samples of the patients.
The health officials claimed that now they will first trace these patients and send them for further treatment to the Ludhiana civil hospital.
After getting directions from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the PPCB and health department had organized an awareness and health checkup camp in these two villages.
The doctors had checked 161 patients in both villages. In Wallipur village, 50 patients are already undergoing treatment for hepatitis C, but samples were collected for the first time from Maniewal. The health officials claimed that they had a tough time to bring the patients for this test.
Dr Gurlal Singh, senior medical officer of health department deputed in Sidhwan Bet, said, “We have addresses of six patients who have tested positive for hepatitis C. Now we will send them to the civil hospital for further tests and treatment.” He said they would also check whether any other family member is suffering from this disease or not.
