Sewage spill puts the brakes on Durban water activities
A major sewage spill into the Port of Durban has put the brakes on some recreational activities in Durban.
Fishing and diving has been suspended in the harbour by Transnet, while crews work to repair eThekwini's Mahatma Gandhi Pump Station.

The Zigzag Durban Surf Pro, set to take place from today through Sunday,
has also been cancelled due to health and safety reasons following the spill.

Surf League Africa Operations manager, Colin Fitch says the decision
was taken to cancel the event for the safety of the surfers and event
staff.
Fitch says the City Surf Series organisers are looking to add another event to the 2019 calendar so as to not disadvantage surfers.

Meanwhile, the Bluff Yacht Club also has its concerns.
Vice commodore, Chris Bretter says junior sailing activities were called off even prior to the spill.
"We have suspended our junior sailing programme because of the water conditions at the moment. We are trying to keep people out of the water. You don't want to cut yourself, for example, and get it infected," he said.
