There's live music to suit all tastes, fairs, exhibitions and even Bridport's first 'Left Fest' - and it's all happening in west Dorset this weekend.

FRIDAY, MAY 10

  • Jason Donovan is bringing his ‘Amazing Midlife Crisis’ tour to Bridport Electric Palace. Enjoy an intimate evening with the singer and actor from 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Bridport Tourist Information Centre or at www.electricpalace.org.uk
  • Catch the first of eight-part series ‘Our Planet’, narrated by David Attenborough, at The Driftwood Café and Church in Broad Street, Lyme Regis. Turn Lyme Green will be showing the series for free to enable people to learn more about the future the planet is facing. It starts at 7pm and for more information, visit www.turnlymegreen.co.uk
  • Scottish folk guitarist from the band Lau, Kris Drever, will be at the Marine Theatre from 8pm. Kris won Folk Singer of the Year in 2017 and Best Original Track 2017 at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Tickets cost £12 in advance from www.marinetheatre.com or £14.50 on the door.
  • Combine bingo and rock ‘n’ roll at Symondsbury Tithe Barn, swapping numbers for music. The ultimate music quiz will start at 7.30pm with free tickets to be booked at www.symondsburyestate.co.uk
  • Mercury, a Queen tribute band, will be playing all the hits you love at Bridport Arts Centre from 7.30pm. Tickets are available from www.bridport-arts.com
  • The Mutter Slater Band takes to the stage at The Ropemakers pub from 9.15pm. Mutter Slater was the front man and flute player for the cult 70s band Stackridge. His songs musically reflect Mutter’s primary interest in 60s blues, soul and R&B.

SATURDAY, MAY 11

  • The Bridport Arts and Craft Fair returns to the town hall from 9am to 3pm. There will be stalls of jewellery, photography, hand-made wooden gifts, knitted goods and anything in between.
  • An exhibition of five Dorset artists, ‘Colouration II’ starts today at Eype Centre for the Arts. This features a collaboration of colour from Sue Barnes, Malcolm Giladijian, Zee Jones, Chris Neaves and Chris Wilmshurst. The exhibition will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
  • Bridport Choral Society will be bringing their concert ‘Spring Fantasia’ to Bridport United Church from 7.30pm. The audience can expect an eclectic mix of choral music styles from the 18th century to present day. Tickets cost £10, which includes refreshments, and are available from Bridport Music or on the door.
  • The Dub Pistols will be live on stage with special guest The Ragga Twins at Bridport Electric Palace from 7pm with a rampant mix of dub, reggae, ska, punk, breaks, beats and drum ‘n’ bass. Tickets cost £17.45 in advance from Bridport Tourist Information Centre or £19 on the door.
  • Uplyme and Lyme Regis Horticultural Society’s plant sale and coffee morning takes place a Uplyme Village Hall from 9.30am to 11.30am. Entry costs £1 and proceeds will go towards the Devon Air Ambulance night landing site at the King George V Playing Fields.
  • Robyn Hitchcock, the UK’s closest thing to Bob Dylan, will be at the Marine Theatre from 8pm. Tickets cost £16 in advance from www.marinetheatre.com or £18 on the door.
  • The first ever Bridport ‘Left Fest’ is being held at Bridport Youth and Community Centre. The one-day festival of music and spoken word celebrating progressive politics and local activism is being hosted by members of the local Labour and Green parties. The event, taking place from 2pm to 8pm, is free but donations are being accepted for Cupboard Love Food Bank.
  • Ben Morgan-Brown will be performing at Bridport Stable from 9pm. Enjoy two sets of originals, instrumentals, folk, blues and beyond.
  • The Brexitometer will be in Beaminster town centre from 10am. Share your views on where you stand and what you know about Brexit.
  • Bath-based band, Ulysses, will be at The Shed, Bredy Farm from 8.30pm, delivering pop delights with their own distinct sound - a nether land between psych, glam and rock, guitar stroking and pop sheen. Entry is free.
  • Enjoy an evening of bingo and live music at Manor Farm Bar in Charmouth. Doors open at 6pm with bingo starting at 7pm and live music from Johny King from 9pm. Entry is free.
  • Expect all the punk hits and more hillbilly style when The Wessex Pistols come to The Ropemakers pub from 9.15pm.

SUNDAY, MAY 12

  • Beyond Events’ inaugural Bridport Triathlon will be taking place at Bridport Leisure Centre from 8am. For more information, visit www.beyondevents.org.uk
  • Cheer on the hundreds of cyclists taking part in Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance’s Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge as they cycle the 54-miles from Watchet in Somerset to West Bay. There is also a shorter route of 11 miles from Drimpton to West Bay. The first cyclists are expected to arrive in West Bay from 12.30pm.
  • Support the Skiathos Cat Welfare Association by taking part in a sponsored dog walk from the Hare and Hounds in Waytown at 10.30am. everyone is welcome, with or without a dog. For more information, call 01308 863585.
  • West Bay Discovery Centre will be hosting a plant stall from 11am. Funds raised will go towards running costs for the centre.
  • The annual Lyme Regis May Fete will be at the Anning Road Recreation Ground from 1pm to 4pm. Expect a range of stalls, food, cakes, entertainment, activities and more.
  • Singer-songwriter Sadie Horler will be performing at Rise in West Bay from 3pm.
  • Danny Adams will be performing at The Ropemakers pub from 4pm, giving a chilled-out Sunday vibe.
