“The First Tests Were Positive” – Massive News For Key Spurs Player But Final Doubts Will Remain

|

With the news that Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Jan Vertonghen left the Johan Cruyff Arena on crutches following our fantastic comeback against Ajax in the midweek Champions League Semi-Final tie, fans have been eagerly awaiting an update on the severity of the problem – especially in light of all the injury troubles we’ve had in the 2018/19 campaign.

The Ajax game itself will go down in Spurs’ folklore, but it wasn’t so great for Vertonghen given the head injury in the first leg, but the player admitted that ‘adrenaline’ had got him through the second half.

Speaking to Dutch TV show Van Gills and Gaston (via the Metro) Vertonghen definitely sounds like he’s out of the final Premier League game against Everton this coming Sunday, but there will be worries over his involvement in the coming CL final as well.

“My ankle is swollen. I played the second half on adrenaline. I couldn’t put weight on my foot after the game. ‘The first tests were positive, but I will know soon if I‘ll make the final. I’m hopeful.”

At least it’s a semi-positive update from him, keep everything crossed.

Edit – It’s now confirmed that Vertonghen has been ruled out of Everton as you’d expect.
