Kenya hit by a new lethal strain of Cholera

A report on Monday revealed that a drug resistant Cholera had been found in Kenya for the first time.

The findings made by the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) indicated that the new strain is different from the others reported in the continent.

Two months ago, the Nairobi City County had announced a Cholera outbreak after several cases had been confirmed.

County Director of Health Dr. Lucina Koyio had stated that a series of cases had been reported in the region.

Koyio had ordered all referral hospitals to reactivate their treatment units to prevent the spread of the disease.

Nairobi Hospital hit by Cholera outbreak

In April this year, one person of the catering staff at Nairobi Hospital, was alleged to have died following the breakout of the disease at the facility.

It was further proclaimed that five other members of the kitchen staff were admitted after the occurrence.

Confirmed reports had noted that the number of patients that had been admitted to the hospital with cholera had risen to 58.
