Doctors take up case of Londiani family with mysterious disease

The Londiani family whose plight was aired on Citizen TV showing how a rare condition claimed lives of 11 of their kin can now breath a sigh of relief.

Specialist doctors from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret on Friday visited the family to establish the cause of the mysterious ailment.

The doctors led by Cuban neurologist Dr. Jamila Castilo are also seeking to find establish why the disease has thrived through four generations.

According to Dr. Castillo, the disease could be hereditary and their findings will determine the kind of medication the patients who are currently at the MTRH will receive.

The family’s spokesman Richard Langat expressed his optimism that a lasting solution to the problem would be found soon.

Former Kipkelion MP Magerer Langat, who had accompanied the doctors, appealed to both county and national governments to increase monetary allocations towards research of such ailments.

On May 10 this year, Citizen TV aired the plight of the family that lost 11 of its members within a period of 17 years.

The family and neighbours narrated how the disease causes hearing loss, loss of memory and damages the nervous system.

They said despite numerous visits to a local hospital, the family was still clueless as to what the disease is as doctors could not help them.

When Citizen TV visited the home, 11 grave-sites stuck out at the compound, an ill reminder of their pain and suffering.
