BOMBS: Explosives were found at two beaches near Beachy Head

Army bomb-disposal experts arrived this evening to deal with the devices, one of which is said to be a World War Two sea mine that is capable of destroying a ship.

Sussex Police warned curious locals to say away from the military's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, which is disarming the bombs.

According to the Eastbourne Herald, the police and coastguards officers were alerted to the situation at just after 4pm this afternoon.

Personnel then cleared people from the immediate area amid fears the devices could explode.

Inspector Alex Campbell, of Sussex Police, said: " Clearly there is an element of curiosity but these items are potentially very dangerous.

"I'd ask people to help us by staying well away from the area so that emergency services can work as quickly and efficiently as possible to neutralise any threat."
