Gold Fields school complex in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality has won the 2019 inter-schools world malaria day quiz competition organised by Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL), Tarkwa mines.

The champions secured 44 points to beat three other Junior High Schools (JHS) that participated in the competition from Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley constituencies.

They received a laptop computer, printer, set of jerseys, exercise books and a trophy as their prize.

Nana Amoakwa Model school pulled 43 points for the second position, while Brahabebom Municipal Assembly JHS and Huni-Valley Methodist JHS obtained 42 points and 33 points each, for the third and fourth positions respectively.

Each school had a desktop computer and its accessories, footballs, set of jerseys and exercise books.

The Sustainability Manager of Gold Fields, Mr Robert Siaw explained that the objective of the quiz competition was not to find out the best school among the competitors, but to improve on quality of life.

He said most of the environmental challenges in the country was as a result of the way people managed their lands.

"With malaria, if we don't look at our land management, town planning and waste management we will continue to record malaria cases" he indicated.

Mr Siaw advised Ghanaians to stop shifting blames, but rather come together and work to eliminate malaria in every part of the country.

The Municipal Education Director for the Prestea Huni-Valley, Mrs Vida Mary Kwofie, lauded GFGL Tarkwa mines for the programme and congratulated all the schools that took part in the competition.

Madam Phyllis Ahlijah Koomson, Headmistress of Gold Fields School Complex expressed joy and thanked the organisers for giving them the exposure.

She said her school would guard this award and ensure that they win it in subsequent years.
