The two leopard cubs rescued three days ago from smugglers have fallen ill at Jungle Safari. Both the cubs have been put under the monitoring of veterinarians. Senior Veterinarian Dr Jai Kumar Jadia is looking after the health of leopard cubs. The condition of both the cubs was reportedly stable and the Forest Department was taking all sorts of measures for better treatment of the cubs. Progenies of any wild animal are very sensitive to the environment.

The leopard cubs didn’t do well in the contact of humans as they caught loose motion the day they were rescued. Doctors were administering medicines. The cubs are showing signs of improvements. On the first day, they were given cow milk whereas the next day it was replaced by goat milk. Once the health of cubs is improved, they will be given the milk of Labrador bitch. However, metabolism of both the cubs is weak right now. Hence, they were given the milk of goat and cow. This is the second incident of any wildlife caught alive in Chhattisgarh.

The Forest Department had recovered a wild cat listed in Schedule-1 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 at Panduka of Gariaband nearly five years ago. Arrested smuggler Shabir Ali was in contact with one Feroze of Mainpur on phone. The day leopard cubs were caught, police and forest department also launched investigation the same day.

However, Feroze has gone absconding after the arrest of his accomplices. Police have recovered 20 enclosures from his home. This is an indication of Feroze being involved in a large scale wildlife smuggling in connivance with smugglers from outside the state. Meanwhile, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Wildlife Atul Shukla stated that they have increased patrolling in the forests of Udanti-Sitanadi and entire state. They are collecting clues of smugglers through informers.
