City officials are warning Beverly residents about a rabid bat found Wednesday in the South Side neighborhood.

The bat was found in the 9900 block of South Hoyne Avenue, Ald. Matt O’Shea said in an email to 19th Ward residents.

The Illinois State Public Health Laboratory conducted a rabies examination on the bat and determined it to have the virus, O’Shea said.

O’Shea is advising pet owners to vaccinate their pets and keep them on leashes when outside.

Anyone who sees a bat is asked to call 311 to report it to animal control.
