CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Health is looking to amend vaccination requirements for students in the state.

The proposed rules changes would require students to obtain meningococcal vaccines in addition to the following vaccines which are already mandated:

  • Diphtheria
  • Haemophilus influenza type b
  • Hepatitis B
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Pertussis
  • Polio
  • Pneumococcal
  • Rotavirus
  • Rubella
  • Tetanus
  • Varicella

These vaccines are administered based upon students’ ages and if meningococcal vaccines become mandated, the proposed rules would require students to get this shot within 30 calendar days of attending classes.

Students with religious objections or certain medical conditions can apply for waivers to the vaccine requirements.

The Wyoming Department of Health will hold a public hearing on the proposed changes from 12-4 pm Oct. 28 at the Laramie County Library Willow Room, located at 2200 Pioneer Avenue in Cheyenne.

The public can register online until Oct. 24 if they would like to make comments in person, on the phone or online at the meeting.

“Details for joining the public hearing over the phone or online will be sent following registration,” the health department says. “All comments will be recorded verbatim and filed with the Secretary of State’s Office.”

Further details on the proposed rule changes are available online.
