The pace of new cases of the flu in Indiana County held steady over the last week.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health is reporting that another 57 new laboratory-confirmed flu cases were reported to bring the season-long total to 653 cases. 232 of those cases are Type A, while 421 cases were classified as Type B. Last week, the Department of Health reported last week that 57 cases were reported as well, and the total of lab-confirmed flu cases last week was at 596.
For the surrounding counties, Jefferson County had 486 cases of flu reported, an increase of 53 cases over last week. Clearfield County last week had 695 cases of the flu and over the last week, that increased by 88 cases to 783. 461 total cases have been reported in Armstrong County, an increase of 26 cases over last week. The total number of flu cases in Cambria County jumped by 155 cases to 1,387 cases as of this week. And in Westmoreland County, the number of flu cases went from 2670 to 2897, an increase of 227 cases.
The number of flu-related deaths across the state is now at 66 for the season, which started in October of last year. That’s an increase of 12 deaths over the last week.
