Washington State Premises Quarantined for Equine Strangles

The Washington State Department of Agriculture confirmed one positive case of strangles on a premises in Spokane County. The positive was in a 4-year-old Quarter Horse mare that had onset of clinical signs on March 9 that included submandibular lymph nose abscess that was open and draining. She was confirmed on March 19.

There were 14 other horses exposed on the property, which is under a self-imposed quarantine.
