ATHENS, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The number of fatalities from flu complications climbed to 91 during the current flu season which started in autumn, Greece's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) said on Thursday.

Seventeen deaths were recorded within the past week, according to a press statement of the center which reiterated the call for vaccination for people at high risk of complications.

Approximately 2.5 million Greeks have been vaccinated, but Greece is still lagging below the 75 percent threshold which the WHO has set for the vaccination of people at high risk of complications, KEELPNO President Theofilos Rozenberg said.

KEELPNO expects that the influenza season in Greece will last until April this year.

In the previous flu season 2017-2018, KEELPNO had recorded 42 fatalities, down from 108 in the winter season 2016-2017, according to the official data.
